I am using the Windows 7 standard backup/restore utility and am getting a message that files have been skipped and the backup was incomplete.  The last backup date is not updated.  Error code 0x8100002f is displayed.  Does anyone know how to fix this??

Run CHKDSK

• Go to the Start button.
• In the Search box, type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter.
• At the command prompt, type "chkdsk /r /f" (without quotes) and press Enter.
• Reboot your computer.

NOTE: You might receive an error message that states:

"Access denied as you do not have significant privileges. You have to invoke this utility in elevated mode."

If you receive the above error message, it means you are not logged into you computer as an Administrator. If that's the case, follow these steps to run the command prompt in elevated mode:

• Go to theStart button.
• Go to "All Programs > Accessories" and right click on "Command Prompt".
• Select "Run as Administrator".
• In the Search box, type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter.

Ever since installing IE8 on Vista64, two probably related problems have arisen:
(1) Windows is unable to fetch updates, (Error COde 80004002 - Unknown erroir)
(2) Office 2000 VBA programs that used to run fine now crash with the msg RunTime Error 429: ActiveX component cannot create object.

VBA code:
Dim IE as SHDocVw.InternetExplorer
Set IE = New SHDocVw.InternetExplorer

Same result if I use  SHDocVw.InternetExplorerMedium

Maybe I should just upgrade to Win7? Thanks in advance.

If you decide to migrate the machine to Win7, back-up any personal data (none of which should be considered trustworthy at this point) then format the HDD before doing a
clean install of Win7.

IOW, you do NOT want to directly upgrade from Vista 64-bit to Win7 with the machine in its current state.

Solution A: Run a system file checker

2.Type the following command, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow
[The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.]
3.A message will appear showing that ‘The system scan will begin’. The scan may take some time. Try to be patient.

If any files require a replace SFC will replace them. You may be asked to insert your system DVD for this process to continue.
If everything is okay you should, after the scan, see the following message “Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations”.

After the scan has completed, close the command prompt window, restart the computer and check.
