Excel 2007 generated MDX queries for multiselect in a pivot table's report filter
Hi all,
I'm having some issues with the queries that Excel 2007 generates in case of a multiselect in a report filter of a pivot table.
The setup is quite simple: we have our own MDX server (not SSAS) that contains a cube with a schema that can be reduced to the following:
- 14 measures, including contributors.COUNT which is the one we are interested in
- 6 dimensions, including the "Underlyings" dimension, with a level called UnderlierCurrency that contains members USD and EUR.
The Underlyings dimension also has an "AllMember" member.
Now, in my pivot table, I choose contributors.COUNT as the value, and I put "Underlyings" in the report filters, choosing to "Select multiple items" and only selecting EUR.
When I do that, Excel 2007 sends the following query to my server:
SELECT FROM [EquityDerivativesCube]
WHERE ([Measures].[contributors.COUNT],[Underlyings].[ALL].[AllMember].[EUR])
CELL PROPERTIES VALUE
That's perfectly good and works fine.
Now when I hit the refresh button, suddenly the query changes and my server receives the following:
WITH MEMBER [Underlyings].[XL_PT0] AS 'strtomember("[Underlyings].[ALL].[AllMember].[EUR]").UniqueName'
SELECT [Underlyings].[XL_PT0] ON 0
FROM [EquityDerivativesCube]
CELL PROPERTIES VALUE
This statement is now quite weird, and has no measures selected.
My server returns the correct answer with the default measure (named theta.SUM), but Excel doesn't seem to like it, and simply does not update the table (nor does it send any extra queries).
I have done the same experiment with Excel 2003, which always sends the first "correct" query and updates the table without any issues.
Does anybody have an idea of what might be going on, and what my server should reply to these weird query?
Thanks a lot!
