After Reinstalling Windows XP, Updating IE 6 to IE 7 fails to work.

I've reinstalled Windows XP on my mom's Computer.
I've reinstalled all the updates except for two.
One is Internet Explorer 7 and then next one is Windows Explorer 8.
I have IE 6 up and working.
I have the IE 7 update downloaded but each time I've tried
to install it I have a problem running IE.
The IE window opens and closes so quickly I usually only see it flicker.
After uninstalling IE 7, IE 6 starts working again.
Could this be a problem with some settings? I'd like to retry downloading the update to
ensure my download wasn't corrupted but I don't know how to 'erase' the original download.
So my next question would be how to redo the download? And for my next question, "Do I need to?" If I just go to Download IE 8, will that encompass IE 7? Or will it
not work because I haven't finished the IE 7 update?

I would suggest you to uninstall internet Explorer7, download Internet Explorer7 from Microsoft Website and install.
Here are the steps on how to uninstall Internet Explorer:
Step 1:

Click Start, and then click Run.

In the Open box, type appwiz.cpl, and then click
OK.
It may take several seconds for your computer to compile a list of programs.
c.
Scroll down through the list and click Windows Internet Explorer 7, and then click
Remove.
If the above step does not help in uninstalling Internet explorer7, folow these steps:
Make hidden files and hidden folders visible
a.
Click Start, and then click My Documents.
b.
On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
c.
Click the View tab.

d.
In the Advanced settings list, under
Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders, and then click
OK.
Step 2: Uninstall Internet Explorer 7
To uninstall Internet Explorer 7, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then click
Run.
In the Open box, type %windir%\ie7\spuninst\spuninst.exe, and then click
OK.
Follow the wizard instructions to uninstall Internet Explorer 7.

In this method we will try to Boot in Safe mode with Networking and see if the error still persists.

Search "MSCONFIG" and Open.
Click on Boot Tab
Tick Safe Boot in Boot Option
Select Network.
Click Apply and OK.
Reboot your System.

It looks like you have selected the E drive during the installation of Windows 7 on the computer.
Now the only option left is to backup your important and reinstall Windows 7 on correct drive C.

The problem that i am facing is that :

I am using OS Vista and IE 8.
Antivirus is Quick heal 11.
An ActiveX Control "P.C.Examier" is being used by LD (Lidda diddha Co) for providing back-office support to share-broker.
I use this application regularly.

tHe activeX doesnot allow me to login.

Boot in Safe Mode:

Open Run command as previously described
Type MSConfig
Click on Boot tab
Tick Safe boot in Boot option
Select Network
Click Apply and OK
Reboot your system

Your system will boot in Safe mode with Networking. You may now try and open Windows Store and should not see any errors.

Alias issue in windows 8

I changed my primary alias from (Removed PII) to (Removed PII) and the password from (Removed PII) to (Removed PII)..
now I am not able to login my windows 8 machine as admin using the new alias X2, but I can login to outlook.com using same account.
Can
someone please suggest the way out, either to change to a new primary account or to login to same account? I am not able to use my win8 machine for last 2 weeks ..
please help!

Below is the response from Microsoft:

I was able to verify that the (Removed PII) account was a deleted alias of (Removed PII).
If you want to revert back to your previous account name then you have to rename the account.
Unfortunately, our system showed that you have renamed the account twice
already.
Please be advised that you can only rename an account twice in 6 months and wait another 6 months to do another renaming.
I would recommend that you contact Windows 8 support for additional assistance to your Windows 8 login concern.

Hello,
I tried to installed Win7 64x Professional SP1, the installation is successful and the computer works normally if not entered into sleep mode. If the computer is put to sleep, after resuming from sleep the system produces BSOD with error F4 (takes 10-15
seconds to crash).
Uninstalling the service pack removes the problem.

I tried fresh install, where I installed all the windows updates and also SP1, without installing drivers or other software (except antivirus, Symantec Endpoint Protection v.11.06200.754).
Only the drivers installed by windows are present. The system failed
again with the same error.

Hardware configuration: Lenovo W500, Crucial C300-CTFDDAC256MAG 256GB SSD, 4Gbyte RAM, second drive is Hitachi 300Gbyte SATA drive.
The video is ATI FireGL V5700

Click on the Start button on the Taskbar.
Type "System Restore" (without quotes) in the Search box and hit Enter or,
Click on System Restore (when you see System Restore pop up in the list of search results).
Make sure the "Recommended restore" radio button is checked on the restore utility window.
Click on Next and follow the instructions given.

Note: There is the option on the restore utility to select "Choose a different restore point". Unless you have a specific reason to select a different date and time than what Windows recommends, just select the recommended option stated in the steps above. After Windows Update CD/DVD drive does not work

After windows automatically updated on my windows 8 system, my DVD/CD drive no longer recognized discs.
It will spin when you close the disc drive as if it were trying to recognize and boot the disc, but then it will not do anything.
When you go to My
Computer it does not even say that there is a disc drive available.

In device manager has a yellow triangle with a '!' in the middle on the DVD/CD drive.
When I click on the drive properties and check for updates on the drive it says that the drivers are up to date.
Drive is MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ8C0.

Is there a fix for this problem? For some reason my system did not automatically back up prior to updating either so I cannot to a system restore point.
Please help.

Try removing the GEARAspiWDM entry.

To remove the GEARAspiWDM entry double-click UpperFilters and, under Value data, remove GEARAspiWDM > OK

Create a system restore point beforehand and restart the computer after.

However, if you have an application that uses the GEARAspiWDM, such as iTunes, just install the latest version of Gear drivers (4.020.5) and make no change to the registry:

Updating the Gear drivers should also fix the error.

Manually editing the Windows registry
