New laptop, W7 Prof, IE8, Intel Core i7, 64 bit, 8g hd, GeForce GT330.
Received black screen with error message "Windows could not start this screen saver".
Any ideas?

·         Are you receiving black screen when you select any one particular screen saver?
·         Are you able to run any of the aero features? 
 
Check for any error code in event viewer, here is the link for the same:

Boot the computer in clean boot and check if the issue still persists.

If the issue does not persist you may continue with step 2 from the above link.
Make sure you reset the computer to normal mode from step 7 after the troubleshooting is complete.

Windows Error Reporting - To Fix Black screen error message - "Windows could not start this screen saver"

1. Go to Start button.
2. Open Control Panel.
3. Go to Windows Error Reporting.
4. Click on System and Maintenance, then click Problem Reports and Solutions.
5. Next, click Change Settings located on the left side panel of the Problem Reports and Solutions window.
6. Select an option to configure how you want Windows to look for a solution to your problems. You may allow Windows to do it automatically or ask you every time to check if problem occurs.
7. Next, click the Advanced settings link.
8. Select Off to turn off Error Reporting.
