Troubleshooting:CAC reader not responding Error

CAC reader not responding

The computer recognizes my CAC reader, but says it is not communicating w/ it.......when I try to log on to ako, it says my card is not plugged in when it is.......is there any way to solve the problem, or do I need to buy a new reader?
 
1.
already tried unplugging it and plugging back in multiple times, with and without the the card in the reader
2.
restarted the computer with it plugged in and not plugged in.
3.
left the card reader plugged in for over an hour.

 
out of ideas........help!!!
