Evening all,
 
I am entering a date and time into a single cell,, however sometimes I only need to enter a date.
 
If I only enter a date into the cell the time is still displayed as 00:00.
eg enter 26-Oct produces 26-Oct  00:00
 
Is it possible to use a custom format so that the time section does not appear if no time is entered
eg
Enter 26-Oct 14:30 displays 26-Oct 14:30
Enter 26-Oct displays 26-Oct
 
I was thinking about how Excel stores dates and times as numbers - a combination of date and time produces a decimal number, however a date alone is a whole number - I've been trying to use this fact within a custom format but without success so far.
 
If this isn't possible does anyone have any other ideas as to how I can achieve the desired result - without entering the date and time in separate cells?

Run CHKDSK

• Go to the Start button.
