Automatic Logon to Windows SharePoint Server

We have 3 SharePoint intra-net web sites.
on a workstation all are set up in the intranet security zone to automatically logon in the intranet zone only.
The Windows XP PC is a laptop.
When off the network the PC will not authenticate with an intranet SharePoint web site.
When on the network it will work as expected.
 
It was working until about 3 weeks ago, until we deployed Critical updates to all PC’s.
Any ideas as to the cause of automatic logon in the intranet zone failing?

If you failed to fix it, another option is to call Microsoft and walk through the process with a technician. To do this, dial "1-800-936-5700". Explain the error that you received and the steps in the update process during which it was displayed. The technician will be able to walk through the steps from getting a new product key to finishing the installation.
