How to Resolve - Insufficient privileges while downloading on the hidden administrators account?

Insufficient privileges while downloading on the hidden administrators account

We just got a new PC with Windows 7 Premium.
We tried installing a game on the main (and only) account.
It downloaded fine, but when we tried playing it we were told that we had insufficient privileges and that it must be opened for the first time by an
administrator.
We were using the administrator account so that was frustrating.
We right-clicked to run as administrator and that didn't work.
After some research online, we gave the hidden admin (net user administrator through command prompt) a shot.
We uninstalled
the game, logged in to the hidden admin account and reinstalled it.
When we try to run the game it still tells us we have insufficient privileges -- even on the hidden administrators account! We tried running as administrator on the hidden admin account and
still no luck.
How do we get this to work? I'm not a fan of dropping a grand on a computer only to have it tell me that I'm not allowed to use it.

Hi Jesika90-09,

1.
Which game are you trying to install?
Method 1:
I suggest you to take ownership of the file or folder of the game and check if the issue gets fixed.
To take ownership of a file or a folder, you must have ownership of a protected folder in order to access it.
If another user has restricted access and you are the computer administrator, you can access the folder by taking ownership.
To take ownership of a folder, follow these steps:
a.     Right click the folder and click Properties.
b.     Click the Security tab, and then click OK on the Security message (if one appears).
c.     Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.

d.     In the Name list, click your user name, or click Administrator if you are logged in as Administrator, or click the Administrators group.
If you want to take ownership of the contents of the folder, select the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects
check box.

e.     Click OK, and then click Yes when you receive the following message:
You do not have permission to read the contents of directory folder name.
Do you want to replace the directory permissions with permissions granting you Full Control?
All permissions will be replaced if you click Yes.
Note folder name is the name of the folder that you want to take ownership of.
f.     Click OK, and then reapply the permissions and security settings that you want for the folder and its contents.
Refer:
What are permissions?
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/What-are-permissions
Method 2:

If that does not work, create a new user account (admin) and check.
If it works in a new user account, then probably your user account may have been corrupted and would need a fix.
Create a user profile.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Create-a-user-account
Now check for the issue.
Follow the below provided link to fix the corrupted user profile.

Thanks and Regards:

Manually editing the Windows registry

Manually editing the Windows registry to remove invalid MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION keys is not recommended unless you are PC service professional. Incorrectly editing your registry can stop your PC from functioning and create irreversible damage to your operating system. In fact, one misplaced comma can prevent your PC from booting entirely!

Caution: Unless you an advanced PC user, we DO NOT recommend editing the Windows registry manually. Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall Windows. We do not guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To manually repair your Windows registry, first you need to create a backup by exporting a portion of the registry related to MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION (eg. Windows Operating System):

  • Click the Start button.
  • Type "command" in the search box... DO NOT hit ENTER yet!
  • While holding CTRL-Shift on your keyboard, hit ENTER.
  • You will be prompted with a permission dialog box.
  • Click Yes.
  • A black box will open with a blinking cursor.
  • Type "regedit" and hit ENTER.
  • In the Registry Editor, select the Error 0x9C-related key (eg. Windows Operating System) you want to back up.
  • From the File menu, choose Export.
  • In the Save In list, select the folder where you want to save the Windows Operating System backup key.
  • In the File Name box, type a name for your backup file, such as "Windows Operating System Backup".
  • In the Export Range box, be sure that "Selected branch" is selected.
  • Click Save.
  • The file is then saved with a .reg file extension.
  • You now have a backup of your MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION-related registry entry.
