After waking from sleep, program windows are located off screen

After waking from sleep, when I run a program, the window for the program appears out side the visable screen and I have to bring it back with the "MOVE" function or I have to restart my computer to correct the problem.  What is causing this?  It is so
annoying.  How do I stop it from happening?  I do no not have dual screens.
