Solution to Error: 3D animating using Autodesk Maya 7.0, when attempting to batch render from command line i get a file permissions error.

3D animating using Autodesk Maya 7.0, when attempting to batch render from command line i get a file permissions error.

Note: While I am also seeking answers to this issue on the Autodesk support forums, it has been suggested that I follow up this line of enquiry as well.

When I render from command line, the rendering process works, but in attempting to save the temporary image into its target directory, I am told "File could not be output.
Please check your file permissions and ensure that the current project has an images
directory".
As the project does have an image directory, and I've tried both chaninging the folder the project puts images in, and specifying this particular scene rendering in a different directory.  I am following this up with Maya's support as well, see note, but I
need some help with 'file permissons'.

I am the only user account on this computer, on a network with other computers in the family home.  In windows explorer, in  the properties of the project folder, the 'read only' box is checked, but greyed out, with the note "(only applies to files in folder)"
beside it.
I can uncheck this box and apply it to all subfolders and files, but when I check again, the box is ticked and greyed out once more.  I have even checked subfolders, which are also ticked and greyed, but when I check the files inside the folder,
not one is write protected.  Are there hidden system files which are read-only in most folders in vista, maybe something to do with indexing? Could this be causing the directories to be unwriteable?

Hi man_qua_mandible,

 Welcome to Microsoft Answers!!!

We would need some more information to help you better with the issue.
1)      a)Since when are you facing this issue?
2)      b)Were you able to use this application earlier?
3)      c) Have you done any recent changes to your computer?
You may try running opening the file with Administrator privileges if you have not tried it.
Also follow the steps below to set full permissions to the files or folders
In the Windows Exlporer window locate the files or folders that you want to take ownership and grant or change full control or other access permissions.
Right click on the file or directory, and then select Properties on the right click menu.

Click on Security tab.
Click on Advanced button at the bottom.

In “Advanced Security Settings” dialog window, click on Owner tab.
Here you will be able to see current owner (i.e.
TrustedInstaller).
To take ownership of the object, click on the
Edit button.
If UAC prompts for administrator’s password or permission to continue, enter the correct password or press
Continue button.

Additional “Advanced Security Settings” dialog will appear.
Highlight the user name (for example, Administrators) in the
Change owner to box that you want to assign as the owner for the object.
Click
OK to make the change.

Back in original parent level “Advanced Security Settings” window, you will see the existing owner of the file or folder has changed to the user you just selected.
Click OK button to exit this window.
Click OK again to exit completely from the Properties window.
The ownership is now belonged to user or user account that been selected.
To assign necessary permissions to the user too, repeat
step 1 to 3 to open the object’s Properties window again.

In object’s Properties window, click on Edit button to change permissions.
If UAC prompts for administrator’s password or permission to continue, enter the correct password or press
Continue button.

Highlight the Administrators or the user who wants the permissions on the object be changed in the “Group or user names” box.
If the user ID or group that you want to manage the permissions for the object doesn’t exist, click on
Add button, and type in the user name or group name desired into the
Enter object names to select box, and finish off by clicking on
OK.

In the Permissions for Administrators box below (or any other user name or group name you chose), click on “Full Control” under the “Allow” column to assign full access rights control permissions to Administrators group.

Click “OK” twice when done.

 Hope this information was useful.
