Solution to Problem: 32 bit IE won't launch unless run as administrator in 64bit ultimate. but 64 bit IE launch just fine.

32 bit IE won't launch unless run as administrator in 64bit ultimate. but 64 bit IE launch just fine.

I have a clean install of win7 ultimate RTM x64 version.
but the IE*32 refuse to launch unless "run as administrator".
there is no error message.
the time cycle turns for a few second and then dispears.
in task manage you can still see the iexplore.exe*32
process running.

the samething happens to firefox and chrome (at least the compatible mode is enabled and i can turn on admin bit).

i have tried disable all addon's and no change.
look into event log, cannot find anything there either.

mysetting is: Asus p5q pro p45 board/Intel e8400/4gb/ati 4850/asus essence stx sound card; all driver are latest from asus.com

BTW.
before win7, i am running vista ultimate 64 bit on the same box.
no problem there.

Another data point: the media player has the same symptom on the initial launch when it ask the setting preferences.
however, subsequent launches are ok without "run as admin"

problem located.
the cause is the Asus Essence STX sound card driver.
it installed a hsmgr64.exe and a hsmgr32.exe (not sure what it is used for though).
it is the the hsmgr32.exe that prevents the ie32 to launch properly.
disable the process (using msconfig) everything
seems working all right.

all the same, had IE thrown some exceptions/errors or log some info somewhere that it had an admin dependency, it will make life a little easier...

Go to the Start button.
In the Search box, type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter.
At the command prompt, type "chkdsk /r /f" (without quotes) and press Enter.
Reboot your computer.

An error might pop up:

"Access denied as you do not have significant privileges. You have to invoke this utility in elevated mode."

If you receive the above error message, it means you are not logged into you computer as an Administrator. If that's the case, follow these steps to run the command prompt in elevated mode:

Go to theStart button.
Go to "All Programs > Accessories" and right click on "Command Prompt".
Select "Run as Administrator".
In the Search box, type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter.
At the command prompt, type "chkdsk /r /f" (without quotes) and press Enter.
Reboot your computer.
